Maria Sakkari and Danielle Collins were involved in a moment of drama where the two got engaged in a heated argument during their second-round class in the ongoing Canadian Open.

Sakkari, ranked no. 8, received a walkover in her Round of 32 match, on the other hand, Collins had to beat Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-2 in her opening match.

The American had won the first set 6-4 and was also leading the second 2-1 when the incident took place.

Sakkari’s first serve was a fault which was returned by Collins, as the ball was coming towards the former, she hit the ball outside the court which ended up in the crowd after taking a bounce.

Sakkari immediately apologised to the crowd by raising her hand and the chair umpire as well did not give her any kind of warning but the American did not take it lightly and asked the umpire if she saw the Greek hitting the ball into the crowd.

"Did you just see that? Did you see what happened?" Collins said.

The Greek then told Collins that her ball didn't hit anyone.

"It didn't even hit anyone. It was on the ground," Sakkari claimed.

The American, in turn, told the Greek to shut her mouth.

"Shut your mouth. Shut your mouth," Collins said.

Sakkari continued to argue with her opponent.

"What is your problem? I didn't hit anyone. I framed the ball," the Greek said.

Collins then told her that she almost hit someone with her shot.

"You hit the ball into the stands Maria, you almost hit someone," the American stated.

The argument between the two continued, the chair umpire had to intervene to resume the play.

However, Collins ended up winning the match 6-4, 6-2 after dominating the second set as well and had the last laugh.
